Fighting Injustice in Polepally SEZ

Polepally Bhu Satyagraham held from 25th September to 2nd October, 2008 was a remarkable experience to the farmers affected by the SEZ in many ways and also to those who had come to Polepally to join the agitation in solidarity.

It gave us lot of confidence and helped get people’s support. There were many volunteers to work, and some resource constraints. Friends made contributions in different ways. At least, we were able to provide one meal. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed monetarily or extended their solidarity in other forms.

(ఆన్‌లైన్‌ ప్రతినిధి-మహబూబ్‌నగర్‌) భూమి అంటే ఆత్మగౌరవం, అస్థిత్వం, ఆచారం, వార సత్వం, సంస్కృతి, ఆత్మరక్షణ, సార్వ భౌమాధికారం, జీవన విధానం, ఒక జ్ఞాపకం అన్న విషయాన్ని పోలేపల్లి సెజ్‌ బా ధితుల పోరాటం ప్రపంచానికి చాటి చెప్పింది. వారి పోరాటం అందరికీ మార్గదర్శకమైంది. ఇటీవల ప్రజారాజ్యం పార్టీ అధినేత చిరంజీవి పోలేపల్లి సెజ్‌ను సందర్శించారు. అయితే ఆయన నిజమైన బాధితులను కలుసుకోకుండానే తాను వచ్చిన పనిని ముగించుకున్నారు. దీని పట్ల అసంతృప్తికి గురైన బాధితులు చిరంజీవి ప్రసంగం సాగుతుండగానే పక్కకు వెళ్లి నిరసన గళం విప్పారు. చిరంజీవి ప్రసంగాన్ని ముగించుకుని వెళ్లిపోయినా బాధితులు తమ లక్ష్యాన్ని వీడలేదు. విషయం తెలుసుకున్న చిరంజీవి మళ్లీ వెనక్కి వచ్చి వారిని కలిశారు. అరగంట సేపు కూర్చుని వారి సమస్యలను తెలుసుకున్నారు. పోలేపల్లి పోరాటానికి ఉన్న శక్తి ఇది అని వారు చాటగలిగారు. ఇప్పుడు రాష్ట్ర వ్యాప్తంగా సెజ్‌లపై పోరాటం చేయడానికి పోలేపల్లి మార్గదర్శిగా మారింది.

Express News Service | HYDERABAD:  Praja Rajyam party president Chiranjeevi’s visit today to Polepally, near Jadcherla, in Mahaboobnagar district where a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is to come up evoked mixed reactions from the farmers whose lands had been acquired by the government for a ‘‘pittance’’.

Though he was quite vocal in coming down on the State Government for ‘‘mortgaging’’ the interests of farmers to major industrial houses, his silence on how he would do justice to them left some villagers disheartened.

Polepalli (Mahbubnagar dist.): Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi spent two hours at the homes of three families who were displaced when they lost their lands to the Pharma Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the year 2001-02.

The first family to play host was that of Shankaraiah Goud who died earlier this year, unable to bear the financial strain that he had to bear after he lost his land.

Polepalli (Mahbubnagar dist.): Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Friday launched an attack on previous governments for not considering the interests of farmers while establishing Special Economic Zones.

Expressing concern over the plight of farmers displaced by the Pharma SEZ here, he said, “While SEZs are essential as they spawn industrial development, they cannot be set up by depriving poor farmers of their land.” As many as 56 out of the 250 SEZs in the country were in Andhra Pradesh, and it was regrettable that they were carved out of fertile lands owned by poor farmers. “It is not real development when it is achieved at the cost of hungry stomachs.”

హైదరాబాద్‌, న్యూస్‌టుడే: మరికొంత కాలం వేచిచూడాలని, తమ సమస్యలన్నిటికీ పరిష్కారం లభిస్తుందని మహబూబ్‌నగర్‌ జిల్లా పోలేపల్లి ప్రత్యేక ఆర్థిక మండలి(సెజ్‌) బాధితులతో ప్రజారాజ్యం పార్టీ అధినేత చిరంజీవి అన్నారు. ”మీ పరిస్థితి చూస్తే హృదయవిదారకంగా ఉంది. మీ సమస్య గురించి గతంలో విన్నా. మీరు దగా పడ్డారు. ఎల్లుండి(ఈ నెల 26న) మీ గ్రామానికి వస్తా. ప్రత్యక్షంగా చూస్తా. మీకు అండగా ఉంటా. ప్రతి సమస్యకూ పరిష్కార మార్గాలు ఉన్నాయి. వాటిని అన్వేషించాలి” అని ఆయన వారితో పేర్కొన్నారు. సెజ్‌తో పోలేపల్లిలో భూములు కోల్పోయిన దాదాపు 20 కుటుంబాలవారు బుధవారమిక్కడ ప్రరాపా కార్యాలయంలో చిరంజీవిని కలిశారు. తమ పరిస్థితి గురించి దాదాపు గంటపాటు ఆయనకు వివరించారు. ప్రభుత్వం తమను భయభ్రాంతులకు గురిచేస్తూ భూములు లాక్కొన్నట్లు చెప్పారు. నష్టపరిహారం విషయంలోనూ తాము తీవ్ర అన్యాయానికి గురయ్యామని కంటతడి పెట్టుకొన్నారు. ”మాకు భూములున్నపుడు వ్యవసాయం చేసుకొంటూ బతికాం. ఇప్పుడు అప్పులపాలై పిల్లల్ని చదువులు మాన్పించి తినడానికి కూడా లేక ఇబ్బందులు పడుతున్నాం” అని ఆవేదన వ్యక్తంచేశారు. దేశవ్యాప్తంగా మహబూబ్‌నగర్‌ జిల్లా పేదలు కూలీలుగానే ఉన్నారని, ఈ నిరుపేదల పక్షాన నిలవాలని కోరారు. వారు చెప్పిందంతా విన్న తర్వాత, ”ఇప్పటివరకు ఓపిక పట్టిన మీరు మరికొంత కాలం ఉండాలి. మీ సమస్యలన్నింటికి పరిష్కారం లభిస్తుంది” అని చిరంజీవి భరోసా ఇచ్చారు.

If he took Sircilla weavers by surprise last week on his maiden tour to get a first-hand account of their problems, Chiranjeevi in all probability might throw yet another surprise on Polepally special economic zone (SEZ) victims of Jadcherla mandal in Mahbubnagar district by calling on them on Thursday. While the Prajarayam party leaders are tightlipped about his schedule, sources said that the newly-crowned champion of the downtrodden might just plump for Polepally for his second tour to coincide with the ‘Bhoo Satyagraham’ stir launched by the SEZ victims in protest against the taking over of their land. The indefinite strike is being taken up by the Polepally SEZ Vyathireka Ikya Sanghatana. Sources said that Prajarajyam party insiders contacted Sanghatana leaders a few days ago, urging them to ‘talk’ it over with their leader Chiranjeevi. TNN
