HYDERABAD, SEP 26 (PTI)
Dismissing allegations of Chiranjeevi that the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh has meted out a raw deal to farmers over acquisition of land for a SEZ, Industries Minister J Geeta Reddy today said the government gave the best possible relief to the farmers.

“Our government gave them (farmers whose lands were acquired for the SEZ in Mahabubnagar district) Rs 75,000 to Rs 1,25,000 per acre. Rs 70,000 was given for construction of house. Job cards were given to them. The local Congress MLA had several meetings with them and facilities like roads, temples and mosques were built,” she said.

She was responding to the allegations made by Chiranjeevi during his visit to the Polepalle village in Mahabubnagar district where a SEZ is being set up.

A massive investment of Rs 500 crore is going to be made by reputed pharma companies in the SEZ which would create 35,000 jobs upon completion, she said.

Defending the promotion of SEZs in the state, which has as many as 56 of the total 250 economic zones in the country, she said all states in the country are in a competition to attract investment by corporate giants like Tatas.

“All states, including those ruled by Left and BJP, are in a competition. The world has changed. Industrial investment brings in economic development. We have to realise this,” Reddy asserted.

“You should not criticise just for the sake of it,” she said talking about Chiranjeevi’s allegations.

The Minister was speaking at the 36th Foundation Day celebration of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited (APIIC).

The Corporation’s CMD B P Acharya and several other senior officials participated in the function.
